What Would You Do If Time and Money Were No Object?

I seem to always be looking forward…looking ahead to what’s next. Much of life, work, family or ministry seems to be filled up with the stuff we have to do. But this causes me to give considerable time to thinking about what I really want to do.

What would you do if time and money were no object? Seriously. Give yourself permission to dream a little here. In fact, while you’re at it, dream bigger!

Author Dan Miller says, “In as much as you may think you really would lie around the house, eat Twinkies, and watch Seinfeld reruns, my observation is that no one enjoys doing that for more than a couple of weeks.”[clickToTweet tweet=”Are you moving toward a life filled using your greatest gifts more of the time than not?” quote=”Are you moving toward a life filled using your greatest gifts more of the time than not?”]

So I’ll ask, are you living in line with your deepest passions and highest calling? Are you moving toward a life filled using your greatest gifts more of the time than not? I found that in my life, and in my family, taking the time to dream and discuss and plan toward these things helped it become a reality. Not over night, but sometimes the shift in my heart perspective had pretty immediate affects on priorities and choices.

Let me break this down a little for you. Say to yourself, “If time were no object, I would change this about my…”

  • Work
  • Pursuit of new relationships
  • Parenting
  • Marriage
  • Hobbies
  • Ministry
  • Rest and recreation

It’s free to dream. Don’t let the ‘yeahbuts’ kill you here. “Yeah, but…” Write a few of your thoughts and answers down. Share them with someone close to you and watch how they also come to life a little. It’s fun.

Now let’s try the same thing with money. Ooh… tougher.

“If money were no object, I would be doing a lot more of__________.” You fill in the blank. “And I would be doing a whole lot less of _________.” Write these things down and discuss them with others who know you well. If you’re married this makes a great date night conversation.

I bet the things that first come to mind here are not all that preposterous or crazy, but may seem unreachable.

Why?[clickToTweet tweet=”Sometimes we don’t have the things that we want for our lives because we don’t ask for them.” quote=”Sometimes we don’t have the things that we want for our lives because we don’t ask for them.”]

Sometimes we don’t have the things that we want for our lives because we don’t ask for them. In the Bible it says that God gives us the desires of our hearts. I don’t think that means we dream up stuff and he is like a personal genie in a bottle. I’ve always took that to mean that the things we truly desire (when in line with his heart and will) have been put there by God, and we get to go after those things.

Find your passion and go for it! If you are just starting out your career after college, or if you’re watching the best years of your life tick away, the next best time to dream bigger and go after those dreams is today. I’m giving you permission.

So again, I’ll ask, “What would you be doing in life if time and money were no object?”

Let me know in the comments below or on Facebook. I would love to hear them! And as always, thanks for watching.
